How did Kooyrigs start?
On Instagram.
Kooyrigs began as a digital space for Armenians to connect, share, and build community. We hosted forums on taboo topics, highlighted Armenian artists and business owners, fundraised for local organizations, and published multimedia content that reflected the nuances of Armenian identity. What started as a page quickly grew into a global community of like-minded Armenians.
Our first humanitarian project took place in Lebanon following the Beirut blast, where we launched Period Kits for Lebanon to provide immediate relief. Soon after, the war in Artsakh called us into action. What followed was an expansion into on-the-ground initiatives rooted in intentional, need-based care, guided by the ethos of a kooyrig, a sister.
Today, Kooyrigs operates across four core areas:
Humanitarian Aid & Housing
We provide direct support to displaced and war-affected Armenians through aid distribution, healthcare support, and home renovation projects that restore safe, functional living conditions.
Education & Opportunity
We support rural women’s education through scholarships, workshops, and mentorship, creating pathways for long-term stability and growth.
Arts & Cultural Preservation
Through exhibitions, collaborations, and creative projects, we support Armenian artists and preserve lived experiences, ensuring cultural expression remains visible and active.
Community & Storytelling
We publish multimedia content including articles, photography, and digital campaigns that spark dialogue, document lived experiences, and connect Armenians across the diaspora.
